Label paper may appear to be just a thin sheet of paper for printing, but it is actually composed of multiple layers of fabric, each with a specific function, working together to achieve clear labeling and secure adhesion. Understanding its structure helps in selecting the appropriate product for different scenarios and achieving optimal results.

The bottom layer is the substrate layer, which determines the basic physical properties of the label. Common substrates include ordinary paper, synthetic paper, and various films, such as polyester PET and polypropylene PP. Paper substrates are less expensive and suitable for indoor environments at room temperature; synthetic paper and films offer greater strength and toughness, are water-resistant, oil-resistant, and tear-resistant, making them suitable for outdoor labeling or industrial applications.

Above the substrate is the coating layer, which provides a smooth and suitable surface for printing or writing. Depending on the printing method, coatings can be divided into thermal coatings, inkjet coatings, and laser coatings. Thermal coatings develop color when heated and are commonly used for barcodes and waybills; inkjet coatings absorb ink and maintain color stability; laser coatings can withstand high-temperature fixing, producing high-resolution images. The coating formulation directly affects the clarity and durability of the print.

Above that is the adhesive layer, which firmly bonds the label to the object being labeled. Adhesives come in water-soluble, solvent-based, and hot-melt types, each suitable for different surfaces and climates. Some adhesives have strong initial tack, suitable for rapid positioning; others possess long-term weather resistance, maintaining adhesion even under conditions of large temperature differences or high humidity.

In the finished label, there is also a release layer, usually in the form of a backing paper. It covers the adhesive layer, preventing contamination or premature bonding of the adhesive during transportation and storage. To use, simply peel off the backing paper, revealing the adhesive for immediate application.

These layers are not isolated but work together: the substrate provides support, the coating ensures information presentation quality, the adhesive provides fixation, and the release layer ensures safe storage. The choice of materials and processes for each layer allows label paper to adapt to diverse needs, from office document management to harsh industrial environments.

Because of its meticulous and flexible structural design, label paper plays a small but crucial role in information management, logistics tracking, and product display. With the development of environmentally friendly materials and the advancement of intelligent printing technology, its structure will continue to be optimized, providing more reliable and convenient marking solutions for more scenarios.
