A: Conventional sealants cure hard. When movement at the window-wall joint exceeds their elastic limit, they crack and debond. Butyl tape never cures - it stays flexible and follows the movement.
Q: Does butyl tape require a primer?
A: No primer needed for most substrates. Clean, dry metal, glass, concrete, and wood accept the tape directly. For porous surfaces, a primer is recommended.
Q:How long does butyl tape last?
A: Tested to industry standards, 20+ years outdoor service life. In window and door joint applications, the tape often outlasts the window itself.
Q: Can it be applied in cold weather?
A: Yes. Application is possible down to -25°C. Below 5°C, heating the tape and substrate with a hot air gun is recommended to restore optimal tack.
